Grim Studio is an independent brand created by artist, Lupita Jimenez. Jimenez is a 24 year old Mexican self-taught painter, creative, and dreamer. Born in Salvatierra, Mexico Jimenez was only 6 months old when she was brought to the United States where she would be raised in a small town in Oklahoma. Growing up as a dreamer, Jimenez was indoctrinated to believe she had to pursue a traditional career to make a livable wage. Jimenez graduated in 2021 with a Bachelors degree in Business Management.
It was a year after graduation where Jimenez realized she didn’t want to follow the path that others set for her and wanted to branch off to pursue art. So in 2022, Pedazo De Pita was created. The name came from her own name “Piece of [Lu]Pita” and under Pedazo De Pita, Jimenez was able to explore oil paining, digital art, and be featured in quite a few art exhibitions. Quite a bit of Jimenez traditional artwork was grim in a sense of symbolizing mortality and grief. She painted escapism scenes inspired from her own trials and tribulations. These paintings are sensitive subjects and overall focus on the declining mental health of the artist. These paintings became an outlet for the artist to release her trauma. As the artist exhibited these paintings, she soon found out how others would find comfort in her art. By bringing forth paintings that tackle the subconscious emotions and shining light on experiences that are far too often repressed it allows viewers to find a place of solace and rest in them.
As the years go by, Jimenez finds herself playing with digital art styles until she can develop her own. In 2024, Jimenez figures out her style and her drive for digital painting is to create a world of warmth and love, quite the opposite of her traditional art. It is normal to spot Jimenez’ instagram filled with digital slice of life art. As Jimenez continues to work on both mediums both with very polar ambiences, the artist found a struggle to balance the two under Pedazo De Pita.
Jimenez wanted to rebrand her art career so both mediums of art can equally be represented and this is where Grim Studio comes in. Grim Studio is a conglomeration of the two worlds working in tandem to create the beautiful equilibrium of life and death- love, happiness, anxiety, grief, forgiveness, and peace. The mission of Grim Studio is to create a safe space for anyone to feel comfortable. This can take the form of personally relating to a story through a digital piece of work or finding solace in an original work of traditional art.
